What makes a matchup “good” for DFS, beyond points allowed?
Points allowed to a position tells you how a defense performed against that position historically — it doesn’t tell you why, or whether it’s still true this week. A real matchup read combines the game’s total (how many points are expected overall), the spread (how likely either offense is to abandon its normal game plan), and position-specific matchup multipliers, which account for opponent quality directly rather than a season-long reputation. All three move independently; using only one is how a real edge gets missed.
Why do close-spread games matter more than high totals alone?
A high total with a lopsided spread often means one offense dominates the game script while the other gets abandoned early — real production concentrated on one side, not spread across both. A close spread means neither team is expected to pull away, so both offenses stay live longer into the game. For stacking specifically, that combination — a real total plus a real chance both sides stay competitive — matters more than total points alone.
Where do the matchup multiplier numbers actually come from?
Each one is a defense’s average DK fantasy points allowed to a position, divided by the league-wide average allowed to that position — a real, computed ratio, not a subjective read.
